COMMUNITY
AT LARGE
In order to change community attitudes and behaviors concerning traffic
safety, the education committee will implement intense community education
and awareness campaigns.
Currently, the North Alabama Highway Safety Office is assembling a
committee of community leaders to assist with education planning for
north Alabama. Regina Gresham, Florence Park and Recreation Department,
is the chairperson for this group. Concerned volunteers and agency
representatives will bring their expertise to this project.
SCHOOLS
Programs aimed at all ages are planned for the school systems in north
Alabama. Currently, education efforts to younger students are being
coordinated through local law enforcement agencies. Speaker programs,
bicycle rodeos, and pedestrian safety events are planned throughout
the region for non-drivers.
Educational materials on safe driving, seatbelt usage and the dangers
of DUI are being developed especially for teens. NAHSO will also work
with existing Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) groups
and assist in organizing groups in schools were chapters do not exist.
CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY
Child Safety Programs aimed at all younger ages are planned for the citizens in north
Alabama. Currently, Child Safety Check Stations are being developed with Community Partners to ensure your Child's Safety. The current Stations will be located at Hamilton Fire Department, Madison Fire Department, and Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia. Listed below will be contact information as it becomes available.
